Is shawarma
healthy?
It depends almost entirely on what you put around the meat. The meat itself is roasted protein — the format and the sauce are where the difference lives.
The honest answer
Shawarma is roasted, not fried, and that is the part in its favour. The meat is marinated and cooked on a spit where fat renders away rather than being added. What you put around it decides everything else: a bowl over rice with salad is a very different meal from the same meat with fries and cheese inside a wrap.
We are a restaurant, not a nutritionist, and we do not publish calorie counts — so what follows is about composition, not numbers we cannot verify.
What to order for a lighter meal
- Chicken shawarma bowl, $12.99. Rice, salad, three toppings you choose. Ask for tahini rather than garlic sauce — sesame instead of dairy — or ask for sauce on the side.
- Chicken shawarma sandwich, $9.99. Pickles and garlic sauce, nothing else. One of the simplest things on the menu.
- Half rotisserie chicken, $12.99. Ask for rice instead of fries. Roasted bird, hummus, pickles, bread.
- Falafel bowl, $11.99. Chickpeas, herbs, no meat. See vegetarian and vegan halal options.
What to skip if that is your goal
Not because these are bad — the Zinger is one of our best sellers — but they are indulgences and worth knowing as such:
- Chicken Zinger, $9.99. Fries and American cheese are inside the sandwich, with cocktail sauce.
- Anything with mozzarella added, including the Shawarma Mix.
- Fries as the side when rice is available at the same price.
The mezze are the quiet win
Hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, fattoush, grape leaves, lentil soup. Chickpeas, eggplant, bulgur, herbs, olive oil and lemon. Ordering two mezze and one sandwich for two people is a better meal than two sandwiches, and it is usually cheaper.
A note on halal and quality
Every meat in our kitchen is halal, which means a specific supply chain and a specific slaughter standard — not a health claim, but it does mean we know where the meat comes from. More on that on our halal food in Richardson page.
